The quaint town of Littleborough features Hollingworth Lake, rolling moors and lovely cafes. You'd be hard pressed not to have a great time.

Overview

A wonderful little town reachable from Victoria Train Station in 25 minutes. There are plenty of cafes and pubs in the town that provide a great place to recharge after a good walk. A short walk from the station and you'll find yourself surrounded by greenery and exploring the many valley streams that feed into Hollingworth Lake.

Best Views:

  • Hollingworth Lake: Up close, you'll see the local water sports clubs using the lake. From afar, it gives a lovely tranquil spot to see how far you've walked.
  • Rochdale Canal: Originally starting in Manchester, this canal stretches right through Littleborough and deep into the countryside. A nice place for an easy gander.
  • Blackstone Edge: A high trig point for the peakbaggers among you that marks the boundary between Lancashire and Yorkshire. Provides a spectacular view of the moors and Rochdale.
  • Whitelin Owls: A waterfall nestled in forest provides a place of peaceful reflection.

Amenities:

  • Parking: Parking is available in the town, but is largely pay and display.
  • Toilets: Many cafes/pubs have easy access toilets. There are public toilets by tourist areas. Walks into the pennines will take you away from anywhere with toilets.
  • Eating: There are plenty of cafes and pubs you can visit within the town, and most tourist spots like the lake have their own cafe.
  • Bridleways: There are many bridleways through this area of the pennines. This makes it a greta spot for horse riding, cycling and walking.

Littleborough is reachable from Manchester Victoria. It's a quick journey straight out through Rochdale. The trains are served fairly regularly, at least once an hour, and it's a fairly cheap return ticket.

Car

Driving out to Littleborough is an easy route. Parking there is easy, as the town is big enough, and popular enough, to have public pay and display car parks in the town.
